Making Personalized Wall Decals
For the longest time, my room was a complete mess. I used to like doing all the room decorations when I was in highschool, solar system, wall photos etc. But then since we move from time to time, it wore out. I then thought, what the heck, we’ll be moving anyway.
But my siblings & cousins keep teasing me about how my room looks more like a big washing machine, clothes everywhere, paper bags, papers, bottles, food, etc. And so I wake up one day, and decided I’ll fix my room. I took out some dressers that I dont need, made my room more spacious.. Ive been so obsess with it that I wanted a wall decal so bad. Checked out the internet and local shops, it’s quite expensive and none of what I specifically like fits in. So I figure, I can make my own. Dropped by the nearest hard ware and bought black contact paper, Php138.00 ($2.50) not plain though it has those wood texture.
Since I cant find pink contact papers, I searched in car stickers shops and bought this 2x2feet used matte hot pink decal for Php50.00 ($1.00). I loved the color and that its not glossy, cause glossy will be wrong. And made patterns of cherry blossoms in different sizes. I also have to print some light colored, detailed flowers so there will be a two shades of flowers in my tree.
I printed the wall decal designs that I found in the net, this will be really helpful if you want personalized wall decal, it will become your reference and you can mix and match. Takes half of time thinking, “What do I like? What do I like?” You can always make use of google, so research as much. I originally want the trees with hanging photos in it. But I figured as I made the tree, it wont fit my Cherry Blossom theme. This is how I started it. having only these 3 things.Pencil to draft my branches & flowers, eraser ofcourse for obvious reasons and scissors!
This is the first things that I made, a cute little bird. I found something like this online & copied it the best I can.
Im so undecided on how I will start with my tree, I first tried branches. Although I didnt push the one in the light switch because I think it looked like a goo pulled out of the switch and it looked creepy for me.
While Im still anxious to start my tree, I made a light post outside my door, which my sister & brother made fun of and accuse me of messing the house. Anyway, I loved it and I dont care. Whenever I go out of the room, I felt like really being immediately outside of my comfort zone & whenever I came in I feel like entering Narnia. Ok, Im a geek.
I also did this street sign behind the door, which is kinda Narnish too, with the first sihlouette bird I made. This will be the first thing you’ll see as you enter the door.
This is how it looks.
I started the big branches first put on the little ones, I really didnt picture how it will be, but I just know I need two big trunks and the rest I cut and cut and cut then stick them to wherever they will fit. I dont have time to take pictures while cutting because being multitasking I was also already preoccupied with watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S dvd which by the way was my company for the whole month of cutting & sticking every little branch & flower in this tree. I finished all 10 seasons of Friends, thanks to Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Joey, Monica & Chandler for making me laugh when Im almost ready to give up. Because really, almost every night I have to work on it. I actually thought, “Why didnt i just ordered wall decals online?!” But well, It was worth it. It really is.
It seemed like an actual growing tree, every night I would look at it and feel happy because I filled it up little by little. And Im not the person who liked any kind of soiling or gardening, its kinda fufilling and ironic in a way. And best thing about it, I dont have to water it yet it wont die.
A little extra I have Christmas lights in my room, which Im very proud of, freaked out my sister, but I tell you it is just so cozy when the lights are out,especially with some good music or dvds. I sometimes lit them up even when the lights are on, when I play violin. It gives that warm feeling. I dont know if im just totally weird, but try it too. Instead of a lamp, prep your room up with this little lights.
And voilà! This is my room. I finished it up with hanging photos of my family & friends. Now this makes my day everytime, if I want to rest & read, watched dvd or play music this just sets my mood.
